Tough Loss at Coors Field 😞

Alright Rockies fans, it’s time to break down today's game against the Chicago Cubs and, let’s be honest, it wasn't the result we hoped for. The Cubs walked away with a 6-2 victory, and despite some thrilling moments, we just couldn’t get on top of their pitching.

Early Game Struggles ⚾

We went scoreless through the first two innings, with the Cubs slowly gaining momentum. By the middle of the 3rd, they had built a 2-0 lead due to some costly walks and errors. Ezequiel Tovar, unfortunately, had a key throwing error that allowed Isaac Paredes to score, making it tough to climb back.

Stallings’ Big Swing 💣

Jacob Stallings gave us a jolt of excitement with a massive 419-foot homer to left in the bottom of the 3rd, cutting the deficit to 2-1. It looked like the momentum might shift our way, but the Cubs’ pitching held firm.

Quiet Middle Innings 😔

From the 4th through the 6th inning, our bats went silent. Ryan McMahon and Michael Toglia showed a bit of fight but couldn't get on base, leaving us trailing behind. In the bottom of the 5th, we had a chance with Nolan Jones walking twice and Aaron Schunk singling, but we just couldn’t capitalize, leaving the score at 2-1.

7th Inning Blues 🥲

The 7th inning proved to be challenging. Michael Busch homered to right, extending the Cubs' lead to 3-1. Despite Sam Hilliard's walk and Jones singling to center, we couldn't muster more hits, and regular hero Charlie Blackmon, pinch-hitting for Schunk, struck out swinging.

Late Game Woes 😢

The 9th inning saw the Cubs pile on three more runs with homers from Busch (again, sigh!) and Pete Crow-Armstrong. Although we put up a mini-fight with Toglia walking, Hilliard singling, and Stallings walking, Jones managed to ground out allowing a run, making it 6-2. But back-to-back strikeouts from Brendan Rodgers and Tovar sealed our fate.

Looking Forward 🌟

Rockies Nation, it’s been tough, but we've got to keep our heads up. There were glimmers of strong pitching and some powerful hits. The Cubs may have taken this one, but we'll stay Rockies strong and bounce back in the next game. Let's keep cheering for our boys, and we'll get that win next time!

Go Rockies! 🏔️
