Tough Loss for the Reds Against the Cardinals

Hey Reds fans, it's a tough one to digest today as our boys took a 2-1 loss against the Cardinals. Despite a solid effort, we came up just short. Let’s break down how it all went down.

Slow Start For Both Teams

The first three innings looked like a pitching duel with neither team putting up any runs. We had our chances early on but couldn't capitalize. Jonathan India and Elly De La Cruz both struck out in their first plate appearances, and Spencer Steer flied out to center to end the 1st inning. In the bottom half, the Cardinals’ Masyn Winn managed a walk and a stolen base, but Paul Goldschmidt grounded into a double play, keeping the scoreboard empty. 😑

Reds Break The Ice

The 4th inning saw some action as Spencer Steer doubled to right and later stole third. Santiago Espinal came through with a single up the middle to bring Steer home, putting the Reds up 1-0! 🎉 However, the joy was short-lived as the Cardinals' Nolan Arenado homered to center in the bottom half to tie it up at 1-1.

Missed Opportunities

We had another chance to score in the 5th inning when Noelvi Marte walked and stole second, followed by a single from Jonathan India, putting runners on the corners. Unfortunately, Elly De La Cruz struck out looking and Spencer Steer flied out, leaving us stranded. 😔

Late-Inning Heartbreak

The 8th inning proved to be decisive. After a single and a stolen base by Michael Siani, Alec Burleson was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Paul Goldschmidt then doubled to left to score Siani, giving the Cardinals a 2-1 lead. Despite intentionally walking Nolan Arenado to load the bases, Brendan Donovan and Jordan Walker were both retired, keeping the damage to just one run.

Final Push Falls Short

We had one last chance in the 9th inning but couldn’t get anything going. TJ Friedl lined out, Ty France flied out, and Santiago Espinal struck out to end the game. It was a hard-fought battle, but we just couldn’t pull through at the end. 😓

Let’s keep our heads up, Reds fans. There's still plenty of baseball left to play! On to the next one! 🔴⚾
