Pitcher's Duel Early On

Today wasn't the day we hoped for, Cardinals fans 😢. The game against the Brewers started as a true pitcher's duel. Kyle Leahy and the Brewers' pitchers kept both offenses in check for the first few innings. Our boys had a tough time getting anything going offensively. Masyn Winn and Alec Burleson both grounded out in their initial at-bats, setting the tone for the first few innings. Could our bats wake up soon?

Brewers Break the Ice

The Brewers drew first blood in the 2nd inning. With Willy Adames on base and two outs, Sal Frelick singled to center to bring Adames home. The Brewers went up 1-0. Our defense did its best to limit the damage, but we were still down. Let's go, Cards – we can rally! 🚀

Struggles Continue

We continued to struggle at the plate through the middle innings. Nolan Arenado fouled out to first in the 2nd, and Paul Goldschmidt was retired on a groundout in the 3rd. It seemed like every time we got close, the Brewers' defense would shut us down. Meanwhile, the Brewers added another run in the 5th inning, making it 2-0.

Brewers Add On

In the 8th inning, the Brewers extended their lead to 3-0. William Contreras doubled to right, scoring Garrett Mitchell. Our boys had their backs against the wall, but there was still time to make a comeback! 📈

The Comeback Attempt

In the bottom of the 8th, Lars Nootbaar singled to center to get us started. Even with two outs, pinch-hitter Matt Carpenter came in clutch, blasting a two-run homer to right field! 🎉 This narrowed the Brewers' lead to 3-2. The excitement at Busch Stadium was palpable!

Nail-Biting Ending

Heading into the bottom of the 9th, we had a real chance. Brendan Donovan singled to center, and Nolan Arenado's double put runners on second and third with just one out. The Brewers intentionally walked Lars Nootbaar to load the bases. It all came down to Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Gorman, but unfortunately, both struck out swinging. Close, but not close enough. Final: Brewers 3, Cardinals 2.

Looking Ahead

Though today’s result was disappointing, it's clear our boys fought hard until the very end. With performances like Matt Carpenter’s homer and our pitchers keeping us in the game, there’s a lot to be optimistic about. Let's regroup and take it to the Brewers in the next one! Go Cards! ❤️⚾
