Cubs Overcome Early Deficit to Defeat Twins 8-2! 🎉

What a game, Cubs fans! Our boys in blue showed resilience and power to come back and dominate the Twins with an 8-2 victory at Wrigley Field. Let's break down the action inning by inning.

Early Battle in the First Inning

The Twins took an early lead with a run, thanks to a double from Wallner that brought Larnach home. But no worries, as Michael Busch hit a solo homer to right center (389 feet) in our half of the first, tying it up at 1-1.

Second Inning Setback

The Twins managed to poke ahead again when Santana scored on a groundout. But despite a tough inning for our hitters, leaving the score at Cubs 1, Twins 2, our team kept their spirits up!

Big Third Inning Comeback 🥳

In the bottom of the third, we saw some classic Cubs teamwork and opportunistic play. Pete Crow-Armstrong started it off with a single and later stole second. With bases loaded, Seiya Suzuki drew a walk, scoring Crow-Armstrong. Sac fly from Isaac Paredes added another run, then Michael Busch scored on a wild pitch. It was capped off by Tauchman and others swelling the bases, causing chaos for Twins pitchers which resulted in a 4-2 Cubs lead!

Happ's Huge Fourth Inning Homer 💥

With Christian Bethancourt reaching third following a ground-rule double and wild pitch, Ian Happ smashed a homer to right, giving us a solid 6-2 advantage.

Shut-Down Pitching from the Pen

Our bullpen was lights out from the 5th inning onwards. Assad, relieved by Drew Smyly, and then López, Hodge, and Merryweather kept the Twins scoreless, striking out batters and getting key outs in crucial moments. 🤩

Insurance in the Eighth Inning 🚀

In the bottom of the 8th, Mike Tauchman got on base with a single and stole second. Dansby Swanson's single brought Tauchman home, and Swanson later scored on Christian Bethancourt’s double, stretching our lead to 8-2.

Nailing Down the Win

Merryweather took the mound in the 9th and struck out Kepler. Even with Martin getting hit by a pitch, Merryweather stayed focused and got the last two outs with ease, sealing our triumphant 8-2 victory! 🏆

Great job by the entire team, and especially to our hitters for stepping up and the bullpen for locking it down. Go Cubs!! 💙⚾
