Tough Loss Under the Lights

Hey Cubs fans! 😓 Last night’s game against the Yankees was a tough one. Despite a solid effort, our Cubbies fell short, losing 2-0 to New York. Let’s break down what happened.

Early Inning Struggles

In the first inning, a couple of hiccups gave the Yankees an early lead. After Gleyber Torres reached on an infield single and Juan Soto walked, a wild pitch by Assad advanced the runners. Austin Wells then grounded out to second, bringing Torres home and giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.

The bottom of the inning started with promise as Ian Happ walked, but Michael Busch hit into a fielder’s choice, and Seiya Suzuki and Cody Bellinger both grounded out.

Missed Opportunities

Through the next few innings, our offense just couldn't get rolling. Some of the highlights include:

  • In the third inning, Happ singled, but it was followed by a pair of groundouts.
  • Cody Bellinger tried to get something started with a single in the fourth, but we couldn't capitalize on it.
  • Patrick Wisdom tripled with two outs in the fifth, but Christian Bethancourt fouled out to end the threat.

Yankees Extend Their Lead

In the top of the sixth, the Yankees scored an insurance run in a frustrating sequence. Aaron Judge walked and eventually scored on a throwing error by Bethancourt while trying to steal third. With this miscue, the Yankees went up 2-0.

Late Inning Woes

From the sixth inning onward, it was a struggle to get runners on base. Despite some defensive highlights, like efficient fielding by Dansby Swanson and Pete Crow-Armstrong, our bats stayed quiet.

A couple of last-ditch efforts included Wisdom and Bethancourt striking out in the eighth, and Isaac Paredes grounding out in the ninth, pinch-hitting for Busch. Unfortunately, those big hits we needed just didn’t come through.

Final Thoughts

After all nine innings, the Yankees took the game 2-0. It was tough to see our Cubs get shut out, but we've got to stay hopeful and look ahead. Let's keep cheering on our boys and hope we bounce back in the next game!

🍀 Go Cubs Go! On to the next one! 💙⚾
