Tough Loss for the Mets at Citi Field

Hey Mets fans, it was a rough night for our boys as we fell 12-2 to the Phillies. The game started on a high note, but it quickly spiraled out of control. Let's break down what happened:

First Inning Bliss

The game began fantastically with Jose Iglesias launching a solo home run to center field, putting us up 1-0. Starling Marte followed with an infield single, and Mark Vientos walked. We soon capitalized on a wild pitch to move the runners up, and then Pete Alonso struck out swinging. Brandon Nimmo grounded out but brought Marte home, making it 2-0. Sadly, J.D. Martinez's groundout ended the inning.

Second Inning Misfortunes

The Phillies cut our lead in the second inning when Alec Bohm scored on a sacrifice fly. Our bats went silent as Luis Torrens struck out, Harrison Bader walked, and Luisangel Acuña flied out to center. Jose Iglesias struck out swinging to end the inning. Still, we were holding on at 2-1.

Third Inning Woes Continue

We managed no hits and were three up, three down in the third. On the other hand, the Phillies tied the score at 2 when Nick Castellanos doubled in Bryce Harper.

Disastrous Fourth Inning

It went downhill from there. The Phillies exploded for six runs in the fourth inning, including a three-run homer by Alec Bohm, catapulting them to an 8-2 lead. Even with a pitching change, we couldn't stop the bleeding.

Fifth to Seventh Inning Silence

Our offense remained stifled for the next three innings, with Jose Iglesias being the lone bright spot with a double. Alonso and Marte each struck out in crucial moments. Meanwhile, the Phillies' scoring frenzy reduced a bit, but they still managed to add two more in the sixth, making it 10-2.

Final Innings and Final Defeat

By the eighth inning, the deficit widened to 12-2 courtesy of a two-run shot from J.T. Realmuto. We scarcely mounted any threat thereafter, with strikeouts and routine groundouts sealing our fate. The ninth inning saw another three-up, three-down for the Mets.

Looking Ahead

Tough game, Mets fans 🍎. Despite some early highlights, we couldn't keep the momentum and let the game slip away. Let's hope for a stronger showing in the next series. LGM! 💪⚾
