Tough Start for the Pirates
Hey Pirates fans, yesterday's game against the Reds was a rough outing. Things started off shaky with Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Bryan Reynolds, and Oneil Cruz all striking out in the top of the 1st inning. It didn't get any better when the Reds' Tyler Stephenson homered to center, putting us down 0-1 right from the get-go.Struggles Continue
In the top of the 2nd inning, we failed to get on base, with Andrew McCutchen grounding out, Joey Bart striking out, and Nick Gonzales flying out. The Reds, however, increased their lead when Jonathan India walked and Elly De La Cruz singled, setting the stage for Stephenson to double home three runs later in the game. By the end of the 3rd inning, they were up 5-0, and it wasn't looking good for us.
Digging a Deeper Hole
The 4th inning was particularly brutal. India homered and De La Cruz stole his way to second. Stephenson singled to bring him home, making the score 7-0. Mitch Keller was replaced by Joey Wentz, but the Reds managed to score one more run before the inning ended, leaving us trailing 8-0.A Gritty Effort in the 7th and 9th
Things brightened momentarily in the 7th when Cruz hit a homer to center. McCutchen showed patience at the plate with a walk, and Gonzales singled to move him along. However, our rally faltered with Rowdy Tellez and Jared Triolo unable to bring them home. Our spirits lifted briefly again in the 9th with Cruz and McCutchen getting on base, followed by Bart's single to bring Cruz home, making it 8-2. Tellez then singled to make it 8-3, but Triolo's strikeout ended our hopes of a comeback.Final Thoughts
The final score of 8-3 in favor of the Reds paints a clear picture of the struggles we faced. We had moments where we showed what we're capable of, but today's game highlights the inconsistency that has plagued us. Let's keep our heads up and hope for a stronger performance next time.
