Game Summary: Padres 9, Orioles 4

Tough day for us, Orioles fans. The San Diego Padres took us down with a 9-4 victory at Camden Yards. Here’s a recap of the game that left us sighing and hoping for better days ahead.

Early Innings: Defensive Struggles

The Padres got on the board in the 2nd inning thanks to a fielding error by Ramon Urias. They took a 2-0 lead when Jackson Merrill and David Peralta scored. By the 3rd inning, it was 3-0 after a Xander Bogaerts double.

Our bats were silent through the first half of the game. Adley Rutschman, Anthony Santander, and Ryan O'Hearn all struck out in the 1st inning, setting the tone for the early struggles.

Middle Innings: Padres Pull Away

The Padres added another run in the 4th inning, making it 4-0 off another fielding mistake. In the 7th inning, they really put the game out of reach with a three-run homer by Manny Machado and a Bogaerts triple. They pushed their lead to 8-0.

We finally showed some life in the bottom of the 7th when Cedric Mullins doubled to right, bringing home both Colton Cowser and Santander. For a brief moment, hope flickered!

Late Innings: A Glimmer of Hope

In the 9th, with the score at 9-2, Cowser singled and Mullins homered to right center, lighting things up! The crowd roared as we closed the gap to 9-4, but it was too little, too late.

Overall, it was a tough loss to swallow, but we did see some fight in our lineup toward the end. Cedric Mullins deserves special mention for his efforts at the plate and in the field. 🍊

Looking Forward

We may have fallen short, but it's just one game. Let's come out stronger in the next! Go O's! 🧡⚾
