An Early Lead

The Dodgers got off to a promising start in the bottom of the 1st inning thanks to a ground-rule double by Shohei Ohtani. An error by Padres' shortstop Xander Bogaerts allowed Ohtani to score and Mookie Betts to reach second base. We went up 1-0 pretty quickly! Unfortunately, we couldn't capitalize further as Betts was caught stealing third, leaving us wondering what could have been.

Padres Take the Lead

The Padres struck back in the top of the 2nd inning. Jake Cronenworth hit a two-run homer to right field, bringing in Jackson Merrill to score, and giving the Padres a 2-1 lead. You could feel the shift in momentum. The top of the 4th inning brought more difficulties as Bogaerts singled, bringing in Jurickson Profar, followed by Cronenworth doubling to left to bring Bogaerts home. Suddenly, it was 4-1, Padres.

Missed Opportunities

It was a tough battle as the Dodgers tried to get back in the game. In the bottom of the 4th and 5th innings, we struggled to get anything going, despite some pretty good hitting from Will Smith and Teoscar Hernandez. With Max Muncy and Gavin Lux failing to bring runners in, it began to feel like just one of those nights.

A Glimmer of Hope

Down 4-1 going into the bottom of the 9th, the Dodgers didn't give up. Will Smith got things started with a single, and Tommy Edman followed with another single, pushing Smith to third. The crowd roared when Enrique Hernandez singled to center to score Smith, cutting the Padres' lead to 4-2. But just when it seemed like a comeback was brewing, a heartbreaking ground ball resulted in a triple play.

Final Thoughts

It was a frustrating night for the Dodgers as the Padres walked away with a 4-2 win. Despite our early lead and some solid individual performances, we couldn't string together the necessary hits to pull out the win. However, we'll take this setback in stride and look to bounce back in the next game. Dodger fans know, it's always a long season, and there's plenty more baseball to be played! 💙⚾💪
