Tough Loss for the Mariners at Fenway

Fellow Mariners fans, it was a rough game for us against the Red Sox, and the final score of 14-7 really stings. We started out strong, matching the Red Sox’s scoreless first inning. Both teams traded strikeouts and groundouts, but things took a turn for the worse in the bottom of the 3rd inning.

Red Sox Breakthrough In The 3rd Inning

The Red Sox suddenly exploded in the 3rd inning. After Connor Wong scored first on a wild pitch, Wilyer Abreu and Masataka Yoshida brought in more runs with a single and a homer, respectively. Before we knew it, Rafael Devers, Tyler O'Neill, and Dominic Smith added to the Red Sox's lead, bringing the score to 7-0.

Mariners Get on the Board

Finally, in the top of the 4th, Randy Arozarena doubled and then scored on Jorge Polanco's sacrifice fly, putting us on the board with a run! But the Red Sox answered back immediately with more runs in the bottom of the 4th, pushing their lead to 10-1.

Homers from Arozarena and Raleigh Provide Some Spark

In the 6th inning, Randy Arozarena and Cal Raleigh gave us a ray of hope with back-to-back homers! Arozarena’s was a 367-ft shot to left, and Raleigh’s was a 413-ft bomb to right. This cut the Red Sox's lead to 12-3.

Boston's Gonzalez Homers to Extend Lead

Unfortunately, Romy Gonzalez of the Red Sox hit a two-run homer in the 6th, extending their lead back to 14-3. Our defense struggled to keep the Red Sox’s aggressive offense in check.

Raly and Moore Lead a Rally Effort

In the top of the 8th, Leo Rivas and Dylan Moore stepped up big time! Moore doubled to drive in two runs, then Luke Raley made it home on a wild pitch, showing that we weren't going down without a fight. Another groundout brought in Moore for our 7th run, but it was still a steep uphill climb.

Final Attempts and Game End

We tried to make things happen in the 9th. Josh Rojas singled, but Tyler Locklear (up for Victor Robles) struck out looking. Cade Marlowe flied out, and Cal Raleigh fouled out to end the game.

Final Thoughts

Even though we fell short, the team showed some fight, especially with those exciting homers and the 8th inning rally. Keep your heads up, Mariners fans. Tomorrow is another game!

Let's go M's! ⚾💙
