Tough Start But Fighting Back
The game began with some promise in the top of the 1st inning, but Julio Rodríguez getting picked off after a walk was a tough break. The bottom of the inning saw the Cubs take an early lead with back-to-back homers by Ian Happ and Kyle Tucker. It was not the start we were hoping for as we ended the inning trailing by 2 runs.
Catching Up and Cubs Power Surge
In the top of the 2nd, Randy Arozarena and Luke Raley helped get us on the board, with Raley driving in Jorge Polanco. But the bottom of the 2nd saw Ian Happ strike again with a 3-run homer, making it 6-1 in favor of the Cubs. Their bats were relentless, and Michael Busch's 3-run homer in the 3rd expanded the deficit to 9-1.
Mounting a Comeback
True to Mariners' fighting spirit, we clawed back in the 4th and 5th innings with key hits from Polanco, Raley, and Donovan Solano, closing the gap to 9-6. It was fantastic to see the team rally, but the Cubs responded with a solo homer in the bottom of the 5th by Pete Crow-Armstrong, pushing their lead to 10-6. Despite our efforts, we found it hard to string hits together and keep pace with the Cubs.
Hopes for the 9th Inning Miracle
Despite being down, Cal Raleigh gave us a glimmer of hope with a solo homer in the top of the 9th. However, it was too little too late as we couldn't muster up more runs, ending the game with a score of 10-7. It was a tough loss, but the effort and fight were commendable.Looking Ahead
We're looking forward to bouncing back in the next game. This setback won't keep us down, and I'm excited to see the boys take the field again soon. Go Mariners!
