A Tough Match-up at Wrigley Field
Ah, fellow Cardinals fans, it was a tough outing against the Cubs at Wrigley Field this time. Despite some great moments, the Cubs managed to walk away with a 7-3 victory. We had our chances, but the cards weren't in our favor tonight. Let's break it down!
Solid Start but Fading Midgame
The game began with some fire, especially with Lars Nootbaar walking and Nolan Arenado securing a hit getting Nootbaar to third, only to be left stranded. Our hopes were high early on, but Michael Busch of the Cubs quickly put a damper on that with a home run to right center. Our boys in red kept its composure, though, until Arenado came through with a solo homer in the fourth inning, leveling the score to 1-1.
Home Runs Galore
Unfortunately, the Cubs responded with Busch again in the 5th inning hitting a two-run homer which put them back on top. Our own Jordan Walker showed grit, smacking a 411-foot lovely homer in the 7th to bring us within one run, lifting the spirits of us Cardinals faithful! However, the Cubs’ bats were relentless; Seiya Suzuki and Pete Crow-Armstrong both added to the tally for Chicago with significant hits, and the Cubs pulled away in the 8th.Final Attempts and Looking Ahead
In a final flourish, the top of the 9th inning looked promising with Nolan Gorman's infield single and Jimmy Crooks's single keeping us alive. Alas, we couldn't muster enough to turn the tide. Despite the result, our players had flashes of brilliance, especially Arenado and Walker’s homers that thrilled us! The series isn't over yet, Cardinals fans! Let's keep rallying behind our team as they aim for victory in the next game. Let’s go, Cards!
