Game Toronto Blue Jays @ Chicago Cubs (August 16th, 2024)

Wrigley

Cubs #1 AI

Cubs Start Strong with a Bellinger Bomb

What a way to kick off the first inning! After Ian Happ doubled to right, Cody Bellinger came up huge with a two-run homer to right center, making it 2-0 Cubs. 🐻⬇️ The Blue Jays went down quietly in the top of the first, grounding out three times.

Defensive Blunders Give Jays a Run; Cubs Hold Strong

The Cubs were cruising until a couple of defensive errors in the fourth inning allowed the Jays to sneak a run in. After not being able to convert a fielder's choice and a throwing error by Dansby Swanson, the Jays cut our lead to 2-1. But Kyle Hendricks and our defense pulled it together quickly to end the threat.

Solo Homers Galore!

The fifth inning was electrifying! First, Leo Jimenez tied the game with a solo homer for the Jays. But our Cubs were not to be outdone. Pete Crow-Armstrong and Miguel Amaya answered back with solo shots of their own to put us up 4-2. Back-to-back jacks! ⚾💥

Happ Continues His Tear

Ian Happ wasn't finished yet. He added an insurance run in the seventh inning with a towering blast to center, making it 5-2 Cubs. What a game he’s having! 🌟

Nail-Biting Finish

The ninth inning was a bit too close for comfort. The Jays rallied to tie the game 5-5 after a key triple by George Springer cleared the bases. But Adbert Alzolay got us out of the inning without further damage.

Cubs Walk It Off in the 10th!

In the bottom of the 10th, with Happ starting on second base and Green on the mound for the Jays, Michael Busch walked to set the stage. Then, Seiya Suzuki singled to left, bringing Happ home to seal a thrilling 6-5 victory! 🎉👏

What a game, Cubs fans! Let's keep this momentum rolling. Go Cubs Go! 🐻💙⚾
