Tough Loss for the Crew: Nationals 5, Brewers 2
Hey, Brewers fans. Today’s game was a tough one to swallow as we fell to the Washington Nationals, 5-2. Let's break down the game, play by play.Shaky Start and Missed Opportunities
The Nationals drew first blood in the top of the 1st inning when Jesse Winker doubled in a run, and we couldn't counter in our half despite some solid contact. The first three innings saw us struggling to get men on base and failing to capitalize on the chances we had.Brewers Show Signs of Life
Things got interesting in the bottom of the 4th inning. William Contreras walked, Willy Adames brought him home with a double, and Sal Frelick followed with a double of his own to make it a 3-2 game. Sadly, we couldn’t push the momentum any further as Rhys Hoskins and Garrett Mitchell couldn’t keep the rally going.Adding to the Nationals' Lead
In the top of the 5th, Jesse Winker struck again with a solo shot to make it 4-2. Despite our pitchers managing to hold them later on, that fifth run in the 7th really hurt us. Lane Thomas singled in a run, and the Nationals showed some efficient base running.Struggles at the Plate</HEADING]
Our batting lineup couldn't get much going, especially toward the later innings. In the 5th, 7th, and 9th innings, we had some chances but grounded into double plays and struck out at pivotal moments. Christian Yelich got hit by a pitch in the 8th, but Willy Adames couldn't deliver, and Sal Frelick struck out, ending our hopes that inning.
Final Thoughts
Despite a couple of bright spots from Willy Adames and Sal Frelick, our Brewers were unable to conquer the Nationals today. Credit to our bullpen (particularly Hoby Milner and Bryse Wilson) for stopping the bleeding in the later innings, but the offense has to step up.
