Tough Day at Wrigley Field: Cubs Get Shutout by Diamondbacks 😔

Well, Cubs fans, it was a tough day at the ballpark as our Cubbies couldn't muster a single run against the Diamondbacks. Despite some promising moments, the game ended with a disappointing 3-0 loss. Let's break down the action.

Early Innings: Missed Opportunities

The game started with strong defensive plays from both teams. In the first inning, Seiya Suzuki walked and attempted to ignite a spark, but Ian Happ struck out swinging. Our boys had another chance in the second when Dansby Swanson walked and Miguel Amaya reached on an infield single, but Pete Crow-Armstrong couldn't capitalize, grounding out to second.

Middle Innings: Diamondbacks' Big Fifth Inning

The game stayed scoreless until the top of the fifth. Unfortunately, the Diamondbacks broke through with a solo homer by Thomas and a two-run homer by Carroll. Suddenly, we found ourselves down 3-0. Despite our best efforts, including a ground-rule double by Michael Busch in the bottom of the fifth, we couldn't bring anyone home.

Late Innings: Cubs Fall Short

Relievers Drew Smyly and Bigge did their part, keeping Arizona from adding to their lead, but our bats remained cold. In the bottom of the ninth, Miles Mastrobuoni came in to pinch-hit and doubled to center, giving us a glimmer of hope. However, Crow-Armstrong struck out swinging and Nico Hoerner flied out to right, ending the game in a 3-0 shutout.

Final Thoughts

It's always tough to get shut out at home, especially when we had several runners in scoring position. Our pitching staff did a decent job holding the Diamondbacks to just three runs, but without run support, it just wasn't enough. Let's chin up and hope the Cubs can bounce back in the next game! 💙⚾#FlyTheW
