Diamondbacks Struggle in Oakland
Coming to you from the Arizona Diamondbacks side, it's been a tough one to swallow as we faced off against the Athletics. We couldn't get past the wall that Oakland put up tonight, with our only breakthrough coming much later in the game. Final score: Athletics took the win 5-1.
Rough Start in the First Inning
The game began with Ketel Marte flying out to left, followed by a pop out from Corbin Carroll towards third. Geraldo Perdomo gave us hope with a single to right, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. joined him with an infield single. Unfortunately, Tyler Locklear wrapped up our half of the first with a strikeout looking. Oakland quickly jumped ahead with Lawrence Butler scoring on Brent Rooker's sacrifice fly, followed by Shea Langeliers's homer, bringing the score to 3-0. By the end of the 1st, it was 4-0 in favor of the Athletics.
Constant Battle but Falling Short
Through the mid innings, we struggled at the plate. Blaze Alexander tried to spark the lineup with singles, while Alek Thomas made contact with right field. Despite these efforts and occasional walks, we couldn't capitalize on the opportunities. Langeliers proved a tough nut to crack for us, gotta hand it to him for that. Down 5-0, Corbin Carroll brought us a brief moment of joy in the seventh with a sacrifice fly that allowed Jose Herrera to score our lone run.
Holding Our Heads High
As the game moved to a close, we tried to muster up a late rally. But the A's bullpen held firm, with Barrosa and Thomas unable to find any gaps. Despite the loss, moments from Gurriel Jr. with a double and Herrera keeping spirits alive with a walk in the 9th are positive takeaways. It clearly wasn't our night, but we’ll bounce back.
