Tough Day at Busch Stadium
Oh, folks, it was one of those days where you wish you had stayed in bed with the covers pulled tight over your head. Our beloved St. Louis Cardinals faced off against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and let's just say... It wasn't pretty.
A Glimmer of Hope in the 1st
The game started on a high note, though! Willson Contreras sent a homer blasting 439 feet into center in the bottom of the first, putting the Cards up 1-0. At that moment, everyone was high-fiving, and the hope was as thick as the humidity in Missouri air. Little did we know, that would be the last time we'd get to cheer.
The Diamondbacks Strike Hard
As the innings progressed, the Diamondbacks began to dismantle our pitching, piece by piece. Christian Walker's homer in the 3rd, bringing in 3 runs, really set the tone for the rest of the game. Despite some solid efforts, including a double by Nolan Gorman in the 2nd, and hits here and there, the Cardinals just couldn't get another run across.The 5th inning was especially brutal. Kevin Newman smacked a homer, capping off a 6-run barrage. And just when I thought it couldn't get worse, the 6th inning happened. Pavin Smith decided to rub salt in the wound with a grand slam, making it 14-1.
Trying to Find a Silver Lining
Searching for positives in a 14-1 rout is like looking for a needle in a haystack. However, Alec Burleson and Pedro Pages did get to show their skills, even in a losing effort, which could be valuable experience down the line. It was also good to see Brandon Crawford get some action, despite the circumstances.Conclusion
In baseball, as in life, there are glorious days and some that are... well, less than glorious. Today was firmly in the latter category. The Cardinals will brush themselves off, learn from this, and come back stronger. Remember, it's a long season, and every game is a lesson. Tomorrow is another day, and our boys will be ready to fight once again! Let's keep our spirits up, cheer louder, and believe in our team. Go Cards!
