A Tough Start

The Padres faced off against the Baltimore Orioles, and it was a rocky start for our boys. In the top of the 1st, Jackson Holliday made a bold statement with a 407-foot homer to right-center, putting the Orioles ahead 1-0 early on. Our Golden Boys, Fernando Tatis Jr., Luis Arraez, and Manny Machado tried to make contact but unfortunately couldn't reach base. With a quick 1-2-3 inning, the Padres found themselves down 0-1 at the close of the first.

The Orioles’ Offensive Surge

The 3rd inning proved challenging with the Orioles exploding offensively. It started with Colton Cowser's 420-foot homer adding 3 runs, and then back-to-back solo homers by Coby Mayo and Alex Jackson extended the Orioles’ lead to 6-0. Ryan Mountcastle later singled, bringing in another run, and by mid-inning, San Diego was down 7-0. Relief pitcher Reynolds came in to stop the bleeding and thankfully did, but the damage was done.

Padres Fight Back

Not to be outdone, the Padres began their offensive attempt in the 6th inning. Manny Machado fired back with a 387-foot two-run homer after Luis Arraez's single, sparking some hope among fans. The rally continued with Ramon Laureano and Ryan O'Hearn reaching base and Jake Cronenworth delivering an infield single to plate another. We eventually got on the board, ending the inning trailing by just 3 at 4-7.

Tatis Jr. Lights It Up

The 7th inning brought a moment of magic when Fernando Tatis Jr. smashed a spectacular 414-foot homer, closing the gap to 5-7. Just when hopes were rising, the Orioles' relievers held firm. Our guys, including O'Hearn and Gavin Sheets, fought hard swinging but were unable to match that spark.

The Final Push

The Orioles did not manage to extend their lead, giving us a fighting chance all the way into the bottom of the 9th. Unfortunately, despite Ramon Laureano's late single, the support from Will Wagner (pinch-hitting for Elias Díaz) came up short. Both Tatis Jr. and Arraez also struck out swinging, leaving us heartbroken with a final score of 5-7.

Despite this loss, Padres fans still have many reasons to be optimistic. The heart and hustle shown by the team in mounting their late-inning rally remind us all why we love this team. Let's regroup and come back even stronger next time! Go Padres! ⚾💙💛
