Tough Night at Citi Field

Hey Red Sox Nation, it’s always tough to see our boys struggle, and tonight in New York was no exception. The game against the Mets ended in a disappointing 4-1 defeat. We had some bright spots, but overall, just couldn't get things going. Let's break it down.

Early Struggles

The match started off rocky, with a quick 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first for our batters. Jarren Duran fouled out, Wilyer Abreu lined out, and Tyler O'Neill struck out swinging. Not the ideal start by any means. In the bottom of the first, our defense managed to keep things in check despite Francisco Lindor getting hit by a pitch.

Tying It Up

Into the second inning, we saw Triston Casas single to center and Masataka Yoshida draw a walk, but a double play by Connor Wong killed the momentum. The Mets took the lead in the bottom of the inning, scoring off a double play. Fortunately, in the top of the third, Ceddanne Rafaela tripled, and Duran brought him home with a single to tie it 1-1.

Falling Behind

Unfortunately, we didn’t keep the momentum. Lindor single-handedly turned the tables by scoring on a Brandon Nimmo double in the bottom of the third, boosting the Mets to a 2-1 lead. We had several opportunities but kept running into more groundouts and strikeouts as the innings rolled on.

Defensive Miscues

The fourth inning was another blow. A fielding error by Tyler O'Neill allowed Luis Torrens to score, and Lindor once again came up big for the Mets with an RBI single, putting them up 4-1. Our pitching held strong after that, thanks to some solid work from Winckowski in the later innings, but the damage was already done.

Final Push Falls Short

Despite getting runners on base in the eighth inning via a walk to Romy Gonzalez and a hit-by-pitch to O'Neill, we couldn't capitalize. Rafael Devers grounded out to end that burst of hope. In the ninth inning, Casas and Yoshida went down in order, and Mickey Gasper struck out swinging for the final out.

Conclusion

It was a tough game to watch, but we did see some good individual performances. Ceddanne Rafaela's triple and Jarren Duran's RBI single were highlights. While the loss stings, we know our Red Sox have the talent to bounce back! Keep the faith, Sox fans! 🍀
