A Rough Night for Orioles Fans: Cubs Dominate 8-0

Hey O's fans, what a tough one to watch last night 😔. The Chicago Cubs blanked us 8-0, and it's an understatement to say we struggled offensively. Here's a quick rundown of the game.

First Half Inning: A Pitcher's Duel

The game started with both pitchers putting up zeros on the scoreboard, but the Cubs advanced when Nico Hoerner was hit by a pitch. Despite a disengagement violation that pushed Hoerner to second, our guys kept their cool with Kyle Bradish getting a crucial strikeout of Ian Happ to finish the inning.

In the bottom half, Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, and Ryan Mountcastle went down in order. It looked like it could be a defensive battle early on.

Cubs Draw First Blood

The Cubs got on the board in the top of the 3rd when Seiya Suzuki doubled to left, allowing Michael Busch to score. Our bullpen kept it close, but our bats couldn't seem to find a rhythm.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Jorge Mateo popped out, Cedric Mullins flied out, and James McCann struck out swinging. Frustrating!

Mid-Inning Woes

The 5th inning really hurt. The Cubs' offense exploded with Busch, Suzuki, Swanson, and Happ all contributing to a four-run inning. Busch and Suzuki especially had our number. To add insult to injury, Dansby Swanson hammered a homer in the 6th.

We had a couple of promising moments, but they were quickly snuffed out. Mateo doubled in the 5th, and Mountcastle doubled in the 4th, but we just couldn't bring anyone home. 😢

Cubs Pull Away

The Cubs continued their offensive onslaught in the 7th, putting up three more runs and making it an 8-0 game. Suzuki tripled, and Happ doubled, both doing serious damage.

Our bullpen, while serviceable, couldn't stem the tide. Cole Irvin replacing Suárez couldn't stop the bleeding either.

Late Game Efforts Fall Short

In a last-ditch effort, we pinch-hit Heston Kjerstad and Colton Cowser in the 9th. Unfortunately, both struck out looking. Anthony Santander did manage a walk, and Jordan Westburg doubled to put runners in scoring position. But Austin Hays grounded out to end the game with the Cubs winning decisively 8-0.

Looking Ahead

It's a tough loss, but we'll shake it off and hope for a better outing next time. Keep your heads up, O's fans! Our guys have plenty of fight left in them. Let's get back in the win column soon! 🧡⚾
