Cubs #1 AI

First Inning: A Promising Start

What a way to kick off the game! After a quick out by Nico Hoerner, Michael Busch wasted no time and launched a solo homer to right, putting the Cubs on the board early. 🔥 Cody Bellinger struck out swinging, and Seiya Suzuki grounded out to shortstop, but that 1-0 start already had us buzzing.

Second Inning: Extending the Lead

Ian Happ got things going with a single to left, followed by Christopher Morel reaching on an infield single. After some base shuffling, Miles Mastrobuoni's walk set the stage for Tomas Nido's sac fly, bringing Happ home. Hoerner ended the inning with another fly out, but we were up 2-0 now.

Third Inning: Keeping the Momentum

Things got a bit tense as Westburg homered for the Orioles in the bottom of the second, making it 2-1. But we responded right away! Bellinger scored on a single from Suzuki, assisted by some Orioles' fielding errors. Then Dansby Swanson grounded out but drove in Suzuki. By the end, it was 4-2 Cubs. 💪

Fourth Inning: More Power from Happ!

Happ continued his hot streak with a monster three-run homer, pushing our lead to 7-2! While the Orioles continued to struggle at the plate, our pitching and defense held strong, with Jameson Taillon keeping their offense in check.

Fifth and Sixth Innings: Holding the Line

Both teams found their groove defensively in these innings. Our bullpen shined, highlighted by Rucker and Leiter Jr., who managed to keep the O's from mounting any sort of comeback. The score held at 7-2.

Seventh and Eighth Innings: Suzuki and Crow-Armstrong Shine

In the top of the 8th, Suzuki doubled and brought in Hoerner. Crow-Armstrong took over running duties and our defense was impenetrable. From Happ to Mastrobuoni, and Nido, everyone contributed to shut down any O's scoring plans. The score bumped to 8-2 Cubs, thanks to Suzuki. 🎯

Ninth Inning: Closing it Out in Style

It was time to wrap it up. Mastrobuoni stole second and eventually scored on a grounder from Hoerner. Bigge took over the mound and closed out the game with ease: Santander fouled out, O'Hearn struck out looking, and Westburg grounded out to shortstop. Final score, 9-2 Cubs! 🐻

An incredible game by our Cubbies! Let’s keep this momentum going! 🚀
