Tough Loss Against the Cubs
Hey Sox fans, what a heartbreaker yesterday! Our boys put up a good fight but came up short against the Cubs, losing 3-1.
Early Lead for the Sox
We jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a single from Brooks Baldwin that scored Miguel Vargas. An error by the Cubs’ second baseman Nico Hoerner really opened the door for us. And how about Korey Lee and Corey Julks both contributing singles? Even though we couldn’t convert more, it was great to see some action early on!
Cubs Tie It Up
The Cubs evened things up in the top of the 5th inning when Isaac Paredes hit a double to bring in Cody Bellinger. Our starter did his best, but Paredes got the best of us there. And we have to hand it to Jared Shuster, who came in relief and got through a tough inning after that.
The Turning Point
It was the 8th inning that really got away from us. Chad Kuhl was on the mound and the Cubs managed to load the bases. Miguel Amaya's single brought in two runs and we just couldn't take advantage of our chances to limit the damage. Despite Dominic Leone's efforts to stabilize things, the Cubs took the lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Missed Opportunities
We had chances in the 8th and 9th innings but couldn’t capitalize. Andrew Vaughn lined out in the 8th and Gavin Sheets reached on an infield single, but we couldn’t bring them home. And in the 9th, Brooks Baldwin got on base again thanks to a pitching error, but unfortunately, our top of the lineup couldn’t come through this time.
Looking Forward
Our pitching had some bright spots and the lineup showed some flashes, but we just need that timely hitting to come through. Keep faith, Sox fans! We’ll get them next time!
