Tough Loss in a Nail-Biter Against the Guardians
The Chicago Cubs had a close call against the Cleveland Guardians but ultimately fell 2-1 in a game that had us all on the edge of our seats.Early Tension with Hoerner Scoring
Nico Hoerner was a standout for the Cubs. After doubling to the left in the second inning and then stealing third, he scored the only run for the Cubs thanks to a sacrifice fly by Dansby Swanson. The Cubs were up 1-0 early on, and hopes were high!Guardians Respond but Cubs Hold the Line
In the bottom of the second, the Guardians managed to tie it up with some small ball. Rocchio’s bunt single brought Giménez home, leveling the score at 1-1. Our pitching and defense held strong afterwards, especially with Smyly coming in to relieve.Heartbreaker Homer
It was in the sixth inning when the game slipped away. Jhonkensy Noel hit a solo homer to deep left, putting the Guardians ahead 2-1. Despite some strong pitching and defense, we just couldn’t quite claw back into the game.Missed Opportunities
In the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, we had our chances. Swanson walked and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher in the seventh, but we couldn’t capitalize. In the last inning, Hoerner reached on an infield single and stole second, but was eventually thrown out in a rundown. A frustrating end to a close game!Final Thoughts
A tough loss for sure, but it was a game that showed a lot of grit from our team. We'll get back out there and clinch the next one. Keep the faith, Cubs fans! ️Scoreboard for Cubs @ Guardians (August 13th, 2024)
