Tough Night for the Cubs in Detroit​

What a heartbreaker, Cubs fans! Despite some promising moments, the Cubs fell short to the Tigers in a 3-1 loss. ️ Our bats never seemed to catch fire today, and Detroit took full advantage when it counted.

Pitching Duel and Missed Opportunities​

The game started off as a pitching duel. Both teams were silent for the first few innings with neither side able to capitalize. Our boys in blue couldn't get a rhythm going in the first four innings. Ian Happ, Kyle Tucker, and Seiya Suzuki all couldn't find a way past the outfield in their early at-bats, while the Tigers were kept at bay as well.

Bright Spots and Troubles​

In the fifth inning, the Tigers got on the board when Gleyber Torres hit a single and brought in Javier Báez. The Cubs answered back quickly in the sixth with Kyle Tucker doubling to right to bring in Matt Shaw, tying it up! But just when we thought the tides might turn, Spencer Torkelson smacked a homer in the bottom of the sixth, putting the Tigers back on top. That solo blast was a real momentum-shifter.

Late Game Action​

In the eighth, a pinch-hit homer from Jahmai Jones extended Detroit's lead to 3-1. Our bullpen worked hard and kept the Tigers at bay from there, but the damage was done. Unfortunately, the Cubs couldn't mount a comeback in the ninth despite Pete Crow-Armstrong's efforts to spark a late rally with his single. The Tigers clinched it with solid defense to close out the inning.

Looking Ahead​

It’s not the result we were hoping for, but there were some promising signs to take away. Matt Shaw had a solid night reaching base twice, and Kyle Tucker's clutch double reminds us of the power in our lineup. Let's keep our heads high and look forward to the next match, Cubs Nation!
