Tough Day at the Office for the Cubs
Hey Cubs fans, it wasn’t our day today as we faced off against the Detroit Tigers and ended up on the wrong side of a 0-4 scoreline. Our boys struggled to get things going offensively, unable to push any runs across the plate. Here's how it all unfolded:Early Setback After Promising Start
Things started off rather quietly in the first inning for the Cubs offense, with Ian Happ lining out, and both Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki going down on strikes. On the flip side, the Tigers managed to make some noise in the bottom of the first. With two outs, they capitalized on a double from Spencer Torkelson, scoring Parker Meadows and Gleyber Torres to put us in a 2-0 hole early.
Opportunities Missed
The fourth inning looked like it was finally going to be our chance to respond. After Ian Happ and Kyle Tucker worked walks, Seiya Suzuki rang up another strikeout. Then came a glimmer of hope as Pete Crow-Armstrong singled, sending Tucker to third, but Happ was thrown out trying to score. A walk by Carson Kelly followed, loading the bases, but Michael Busch lined out to center to close the door on us. So frustrating!
Tigers Add Insult to Injury
The fifth inning saw the Tigers tacking on two more runs to the score, thanks to Riley Greene's bat, which put up a 4-0 lead that held the rest of the way. We just couldn’t get the momentum going, and despite hits from Dansby Swanson and others, we couldn’t find the timely one to bring anyone home.Striking Out and Striking Out
Unfortunately, our bats were ice cold this afternoon. We were plagued by strikeouts and popouts that killed any potential rallies. The Tigers’ pitchers kept our hitters off balance throughout the contest, notably blanking us even when we did get runners on base.Looking Forward
It was a frustrating game, but it’s a long season, and our Cubbies have the talent to bounce back quickly. Let’s hope for better results in the next game, and as always, keep the faith!
