Tough Night in Milwaukee for the Cubs
Hey fellow Cubs fans, last night's game against the Brewers was a rollercoaster that unfortunately ended in a 6-10 loss for our team. Here's a breakdown of what went down at the American Family Field.
Early Game Blues
The game started quietly for both teams, but tensions rose quickly. While our opening bats couldn’t get the momentum going, the Brewers' Christian Yelich didn't waste any time, putting his team ahead with a massive 441-foot homer in the bottom of the first, bringing in Joey Ortiz for a 2-run lead. Despite a solo homer by Ian Happ in the 2nd inning (), the Cubs were playing catch up from the start.
Brewers Extend Their Lead
The Brewers significantly extended their lead by the third inning, thanks to hits from Ortiz, Willy Adames, and a double by Gary Sanchez, followed by a two-run homer from Blake Perkins. Sadly, our pitching couldn’t keep the Brewers at bay, and by the end of the 3rd, we were staring down a 1-7 scoreboard. The Cubs' bats tried to respond, with Happ and Cody Bellinger making efforts to narrow the gap, but the Brewers’ defense held strong.
Cubs’ Late Rally Falls Short
Despite a less than ideal start, our Cubs showed heart and attempted a comeback in the 5th inning with Patrick Wisdom being hit by a pitch with bases loaded, allowing Bellinger to score and inching us closer to a now dominating Brewers. However, any momentum was short-lived; Adames smashed a 2-run homer in the 7th inning, pushing the Brewers’ lead to 10-4.
The Cubs managed to snag a couple more runs in the 9th, thanks to Morel’s infield RBI and another sacrifice fly by Happ, but it was just not enough to overturn the Brewers' hefty lead.
Final Thoughts
While it's always tough to swallow a loss, especially against division rivals like the Brewers, there were a few positives, like Happ’s consistent batting and Bellinger going full throttle till the very end. Our boys showed some fight, but we’ll need to tighten up defensively and get the bats going earlier if we want to bounce back in the next game. Let’s keep our heads up and trust in our Cubs to shake this off!
Till next time, let's stay hopeful, Cubs Nation!
