A Tough Day at the Office for the Cubbies
Hey Cubs fans,It was a tough afternoon for our boys as we fell to the Phillies 6-2. Despite a few bright spots, we couldn’t get much going offensively against their pitching.
Early Struggles
In the first inning, Mike Tauchman managed to draw a walk and give us some hope, but he was caught stealing second. We struggled to build momentum from there as Michael Busch struck out looking and Seiya Suzuki flied out to right.Phillies Pounce Early
We kept things scoreless until the bottom of the second, when J.T. Realmuto crushed a 421-foot homer to center, bringing in Bryson Stott to put the Phillies up 2-0. From then on, it felt like we were playing catch-up.Cubs’ Late Effort
The Phillies extended their lead with another homer by Kyle Schwarber and an RBI single by Nick Castellanos in the 3rd inning. By the 5th, they capitalized on fielding errors to make it 5-0.We finally broke through in the 7th inning. Isaac Paredes started with a double, followed by another double from Nico Hoerner to bring in our first run. Christian Bethancourt also contributed with a bunt single. Patrick Wisdom came in as a pinch hitter, but despite the effort, we could only bring the score to 6-2.
Final Attempts
In the 8th and 9th innings, we tried to mount a comeback. Unfortunately, Seiya Suzuki and Cody Bellinger both struck out, and we couldn't capitalize on a fielding error by the Phillies. Mike Tauchman managed another walk, but Michael Busch flied out to end our hopes.Bright Spots and Looking Ahead
Despite the loss, there were some positives: Isaac Paredes hit well, and Nico Hoerner displayed some clutch hitting. We need to tighten up defensively and find consistency at the plate. Let’s regroup and come back stronger in the next game. Keep the faith, Cubs Nation!
