A Tough Loss for the Cubs in Pittsburgh
It was a close game today against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but unfortunately, our Chicago Cubs came up just short with a final score of 4-3.
A Slow Start, but a Heart-Pounding 5th Inning
The Cubs got off to a slow start with Ian Happ, Kyle Tucker, and Seiya Suzuki unable to put us on the scoreboard in the first. The Pirates capitalized on a scoring opportunity in the bottom half, taking a 1-0 lead. In the top of the 5th, though, our boys showed some fire! After a smart play by Dansby Swanson and Jon Berti got things rolling, Ian Happ stepped up again, driving in a run and, thanks to a couple of wild pitches, we jumped ahead 3-2!
A Battle Until the End
Both teams had their moments, and it was really in the crucial 7th inning that the Pirates took the lead back. A couple of costly errors and big plays from the Pirates' side, including a double from Andrew McCutchen, turned the tables on us. Dansby Swanson tried rallying us in the 9th with a two-out single, but we just couldn’t push across the tying run with Jon Berti striking out to end our hopes.
Looking Forward
It's always tough dropping games like these, but there's plenty to be optimistic about, especially moments like the thrilling 5th inning. Let's keep cheering on the Cubs as they head to their next matchup – we'll bounce back stronger! Go Cubs!
