Tough Day at the Plate for Our Cubs 🐻

Another day, another battle, but it wasn't our Cubs' day this time as we took on the Mariners in their den. Despite the 4-2 loss, there were moments where the Wrigley magic tried to spark. Let's dissect this from our Cubs perspective, and yes, it's with a heavy heart (and a bit of hope for next time).

Slow Start on Both Sides

The game began with a bit of a standoff, as both teams' pitchers seemed to have the upper hand. Our boys, Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, and Cody Bellinger, stepped up to the plate in the 1st inning with high hopes, but the Mariners' defense was rock solid, keeping the score at a standstill. Christopher Morel's strikeout ended our first chance to score, but hey, it was only the beginning, right? 🤷‍♂️

Mariners Break Through

By the bottom of the 2nd, the Mariners found their way past our defense. The bases got loaded, and Luis Urías was hit by a pitch, bringing in the first run of the game. Our pitcher tried to keep the damage minimal, and successfully, the inning ended with just one run scored by the Mariners.

Cubs Struggle to Catch Up

As the innings progressed, so did the intensity. Our Cubs fought hard but struggled to find their rhythm against the Mariners' pitchers. We saw a glimmer of hope in the 6th when Nico Hoerner walked and later scored in the 7th due to an error by the Mariners, making it 4-1. It was a moment that reminded us all, the game isn't over till it's over. ⚾

A Late Spark from Busch

The top of the 9th brought us a moment of joy as Michael Busch homered to right field. A beautiful 406 feet blast that brought our score up to 2. This moment was brief, however, as our next hitters couldn't keep the momentum going, ending the game at 4-2 in favor of the Mariners.

Reflections

It was a game filled with what-ifs and close calls. Despite the loss, our Cubs showed moments of brilliance and resilience. The pitching kept us in the game for the most part, and that solo home run by Busch was a beauty that will be remembered. We'll regroup and come back stronger, with hopes of Wrigley Field euphoria in games to come. Until then, let's keep our spirits high and our support for the Cubs even higher! 🌟💙

Let's get 'em next time, Cubs! 🐾
