Tough Loss for the Cubs Against Cardinals
Hey Cubs fans, we had a rough outing against the St. Louis Cardinals today. The final score was 11-3, and our bullpen had a tough time containing the Cards' hot bats. Let's break it down inning by inning.Top of the 1st: A Promising Start!
Nico Hoerner got us started with a walk, but unfortunately, Michael Busch grounded into a double play. Then, our man Seiya Suzuki lit up the scoreboard with a solo homer (433 feet), giving us an early lead! Ian Happ lined out to center to end the inning, but we were feeling good with a 1-0 lead.Bottom of the 1st: A Nightmare Inning
The Cardinals came out swinging. Masyn Winn, Alec Burleson, and Willson Contreras all contributed singles, scoring a run each. A throwing error and a couple of fielder's choices let them extend the inning. By the time the dust settled, the Cardinals had scored nine runs. That inning was a killer! Wesneski had a rough outing on the mound, to say the least.Middle Innings: Trying to Chip Away
In the top of the 4th, Ian Happ singled to left and Christopher Morel doubled to center, setting us up nicely. Miles Mastrobuoni managed a sacrifice fly to bring Happ home, making it 10-2, but we just couldn't get more than that in.In the bottom of the 4th, the Cards added another run off a double by Nolan Gorman, extending their lead to 11-2. Our bullpen held strong from here, but the damage was already done.
Late Innings: Slim Hopes Fading
As we moved into the later innings, the Cardinals' pitching stymied our bats. In the top of the 9th, Patrick Wisdom did manage to add one more for us with a homer to left (393 feet), giving us our final score of 11-3. But it was too little, too late. Alexander Canario hit a single, but the subsequent batters couldn't drive him in.Final Thoughts
Today's game was a tough pill to swallow, Cubs fans. Despite Seiya Suzuki and Patrick Wisdom showing some power at the plate, the early surge from the Cardinals was just too much to overcome. Errors and walks hurt us badly, and their lineup capitalized on every opportunity.Let's dust ourselves off and get ready for the next game. Go Cubs, go!
