Cardinals Take a Nail-Biter Against the Cubs!
Hey Cards fans! What a thrilling victory we had last night against our arch-rivals, the Cubs! The final score was 5-4 in favor of our St. Louis Cardinals, and it was a rollercoaster of emotions from start to finish. Let's dive into this exciting game recap:Early Action and Home Runs!
The game started off with a bang as our shortstop, Masyn Winn, smashed a 404-foot home run to left field in the bottom of the 1st inning, putting us on the board early. Just two batters later, Willson Contreras followed suit with a 364-foot homer to right, giving us an early 2-0 lead. Goldy (that’s Paul Goldschmidt for the uninitiated) managed a single to right and soon found himself on third base after Brendan Donovan doubled. Unfortunately, we couldn't add more runs in that inning with Nolan Arenado and Lars Nootbaar getting out, but the tone was set.Cubs Fight Back in the 2nd Inning
Our initial jubilation was dampened in the top of the 2nd inning when the Cubs mounted a comeback. Miguel Amaya hit a two-run homer to center, tying the game at 2-2. Then, Nico Hoerner and Seiya Suzuki contributed with an RBI each, putting the Cubs ahead 4-2. A tough inning, but we didn’t lose hope!Closing the Gap
In the bottom of the 2nd, Matt Carpenter managed to get on base with an infield single, followed by Nolan Gorman drawing a walk. Winn continued his red-hot game with a single to right, but unfortunately, Carpenter was thrown out at home. Despite that, Alec Burleson managed to hit a sacrifice fly to bring Gorman home, narrowing the Cubs' lead to 4-3.Tension-Packed Mid-Innings!
Both teams showed some strong pitching and tight defense, keeping the score as is through the middle innings. T.J. King and Jacob Kittredge were rock-solid out of our bullpen, shutting down the Cubs' hitters. We had some chances in the 3rd and 4th innings but couldn’t capitalize.8th Inning Magic!
Down 4-3 entering the bottom of the 8th, the tension was thick. Contreras walked to start our charge. Then, Goldschmidt delivered a clutch ground-rule double. With runners in scoring position, Donovan struck out, but Arenado played the hero by singling to center, scoring both Contreras and Goldschmidt. That put us ahead 5-4, and the stadium erupted in joy!Closing it Out!
In the 9th inning, Michael Siani took over in center field, and Nootbaar shifted to right field. It all came down to our closer, Ryan Helsley. After a bit of a nervous moment with Suzuki reaching third base, Helsley struck out Christopher Morel, securing our victory with a thunderous cheering crowd.Summary
We managed to take home a fantastic victory thanks to timely hitting, solid pitching, and gritty determination from our boys. Masyn Winn and Willson Contreras set the pace early, while Nolan Arenado was our clutch performer when it mattered most. Can't wait to see more of these thrilling games!Go Cards!
