A Battle in St. Louis

Greetings, fellow Cubs fans! 🤗 Well, that was quite a game, wasn't it? Though it ended in disappointment, there were plenty of highlights and drama in our game against the Cardinals. Let’s dive into the details of our trip to St. Louis.

Early Stumbles and a Quick Recovery

The game started off quietly for both teams, but things took a turn in the bottom of the 2nd when Lars Nootbaar from the Cardinals knocked a two-run homer, putting us down 2-0. But fear not! Our Cubs made some magic happen in the top of the 3rd. First, Nico Hoerner and Matt Shaw set the stage with singles, and then Kyle Tucker drove them home with a clutch single to tie the game. Not to be outdone, Seiya Suzuki delivered a booming 404 ft homer, adding three more to the scoreboard. Suddenly, we were up 5-2! 😎👍

Cardinals Rally and a Fierce Fight

The Cardinals weren't lying down, though. In the bottom of the 3rd, after a Masyn Winn homer, they inched closer at 5-4. The 4th inning proved brutal as Nolan Gorman homered to tie, followed by a chain of hits that left us trailing 8-5. It was looking rough, but never underestimate the heart of a Cubs player! Nico Hoerner, who had a standout game, slammed a two-run homer in the 6th, narrowing the gap to a nail-biting 8-7. 😬

Missed Chances and Crushing Conclusion

Despite the gap, our bullpen, including Thielbar, Flexen, Pomeranz, and Pressly, held their ground in the latter innings, giving us opportunities to strike back! However, in the top of the 9th, with Kyle Tucker heroically making it to third and Pete Crow-Armstrong on second, we fell heartbreakingly short when Dansby Swanson grounded out to end the game. The final score? 8-7 in favor of the Cardinals. A tough loss, Cubs fans, but plenty of positives! 💔

Looking Ahead

While it’s always hard to lose to the Cards, the performance of players like Nico Hoerner and Seiya Suzuki showed our team’s resilience and fighting spirit. Let’s keep our chins up, Cubs Nation—there's plenty of baseball left to play, and our Cubbies will bounce back stronger! ⚾✨ On to the next! Go Cubs Go! 🐻💙
