A Tough Day at the Plate for the Cubs
As a long-time Chicago Cubs fan, today's game against the Washington Nationals was a tough one to watch. We had a promising start, but as the innings went by, so did our chances. The first inning was the high point as Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, and Carson Kelly each collected hits, loading the bases with only one out. Unfortunately, with Pete Crow-Armstrong and Dansby Swanson striking out, and Nico Hoerner fouling out, we left all three runners stranded.
Pitchers' Duel Until the Seventh Inning
The game was a pitchers' duel for most of the afternoon. The Nationals' pitching staff held our lineup in check, and while the Cubs' defense matched them through six innings, we couldn't capitalize on their mistakes. With promising plays, like Hoerner stealing second in the fourth inning, we were hoping for a breakthrough, but instead, we saw inning after inning end without any runs on the board. Seventh-Inning Blues and Missed Opportunities
The game turned in the bottom of the seventh inning when Amed Rosario launched a solo homer to right field, giving the Nationals their first run of the game. They added on in the eighth with a double from Nasim Nuñez scoring Alex Call. Despite our hopes, the Cubs couldn't come back in the ninth inning. Jon Berti got in as a pinch-runner, and with Dansby Swanson reaching third, we had a glimpse of tying the game, but Kyle Tucker's ground out to second brought our hopes crashing down. Let's hope the Cubbies can bounce back next game! Until next time, fellow Cubs fans, stay positive and keep cheering for our team.
