A Slow Start for Both Teams
Well, White Sox Nation, it was a tough game today against the Royals in Kansas City. Both teams started off slow with no runs on the board through the first five innings. Gavin Sheets and Luis Robert Jr. couldn't get the bats going early. Sheets struck out swinging in the 1st, and Robert Jr. couldn't capitalize and struck out as well. Despite putting some balls in play, we just didn't find the gaps, and it stayed 0-0.
First Blood Drawn by the Sox
It wasn't until the top of the 6th inning that Tommy Pham broke the deadlock. Nicky Lopez got hit by a pitch and eventually advanced to second on a groundout by Korey Lee. Then, Pham came up clutch with a single to center, allowing Lopez to score and putting us on top, 1-0! Sheets followed with another hit, moving Pham to second, but unfortunately, Robert Jr. couldn't keep the rally going. Still, it felt great to have the lead for a change!
Royals Rally Late
Unfortunately, things took a sour turn in the 7th inning. Garcia and Blanco got back-to-back singles, with Blanco eventually getting to third on a sac bunt, and Garcia scored. The Royals tied it up 1-1. The real dagger came in the bottom of the 8th, though. After some crucial hits from Witt Jr., Pasquantino, and Renfroe, the Royals pushed through with three more runs, making it 4-1. Despite Brebbia and Peralta's best efforts to minimize the damage, the Royals' bats were just too hot to handle tonight.
Too Little, Too Late
The top of the 9th didn't provide the dramatic comeback we hoped for. Pham lined out to left, Sheets grounded out, and Robert Jr. struck out swinging to end the game. Final score: Royals 4, White Sox 1. A tough pill to swallow, but let's keep our heads up and move on to the next game. Go Sox!
