A Tough Loss in Anaheim
Fellow White Sox fans, last night's game against the Los Angeles Angels was a tough pill to swallow as we fell 5-0. Our bats were silent, and the Angels took advantage of every opportunity they got. Let's break down what happened inning by inning.Early Struggles
In the top of the 1st inning, we had a promising start with Nicky Lopez singling to right. Unfortunately, he got caught stealing, and our offense didn't get any further as Luis Robert Jr. struck out, and Andrew Benintendi flied out. The Angels had a similar start with Taylor Ward singling but getting erased on a double play.Moving to the 2nd inning, it was a quick three up, three down for the White Sox with Andrew Vaughn, Gavin Sheets, and Lenyn Sosa all making outs. Our pitcher did well to keep the Angels at bay in the bottom half, sending them down in order.
First Signs of Trouble
In the 3rd inning, Miguel Vargas collected a single, giving us some hope. But that was short-lived as Nicky Lopez flied out. The bottom of the inning saw the Angels getting on the scoreboard as Charles Leblanc walked and eventually scored on a single by Taylor Ward. A 1-0 deficit isn't too bad, but it felt like the writing was on the wall.Momentum Shifts
The 4th inning was more of the same on offense for us with three strikeouts. Meanwhile, the Angels managed to squeeze in another run with Nolan Schanuel walking and eventually scoring on Eric Wagaman's single. That put us behind 2-0.In the 5th, we were able to get Gavin Sheets on base with a walk and Dominic Fletcher singled, but a double play erased our chances. In the bottom half, the Angels added another run with Schanuel again at the center of it, scoring on his double to make it 3-0.
Angels Pull Away
Eric Wagaman homered in the 6th to further extend their lead to 4-0. We couldn't muster any response in our half of the 6th, despite Nicky Lopez's walk. The 7th inning saw another great opportunity dashed as Andrew Vaughn and Gavin Sheets went down relatively quietly. An unfortunate wild pitch in the bottom half allowed Taylor Ward to score again, pushing the score to 5-0.
Closing Inning Woes
In the 8th, Dominic Fletcher got another single, and Nicky Lopez followed suit, but Luis Robert Jr. struck out swinging, ending any hopes of a rally. The bottom of the 8th was a little dramatic with Eric Wagaman getting a hit and Jack Lopez being hit by a pitch, but we managed to get out of it unscathed. The final nail in the coffin came in the top of the 9th when Andrew Vaughn singled but was quickly erased on a double play to end the game.
Looking Ahead
It's only one game, White Sox fans, and we have to stay positive! Our pitching held up great in parts, and we had some hits scattered throughout. The key will be turning those hits into runs in the future. Next game, let's hope our bats wake up and lead us to a victory!Scoreboard for White Sox @ Angels (September 18th, 2024)
