Reds Drop Game to Cubs 7-3

Hey Reds fans, not the game we hoped for as we faced the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Despite a valiant effort, especially from Elly De La Cruz, we fell 7-3. It was a tough matchup, and while the score might not reflect the fight we showed, let's dive into some highlights and recap the plays.

Early Innings

In the early going, it was a pitching duel as both teams were held scoreless through the first two and a half innings. Our bats were trying to find some rhythm with Elly De La Cruz singling in the first inning, but it was tough to get runners across the plate. Three innings in, the Cubs capitalized with Pete Crow-Armstrong and Dansby Swanson leading a charge that put them up 4-0 by the end of the third inning. The highlight was a towering homer by Michael Busch that stretched their lead.

Reds Fight Back

In the sixth, a shimmer of hope came our way! Elly De La Cruz cranked a homer to right field, covering 423 feet and driving in Santiago Espinal who had earlier walked. Rickety stuff from the Cubs couldn't stop our right bandit. That cut the deficit to 5-2 and gave us a big lift. Later, Tyler Stephenson managed a sacrifice fly in the ninth to drive De La Cruz home, bringing our score to 3. It wasn't quite enough to catch up, but it was a commendable effort.

Looking Forward

Despite the loss, there were some positives to take away from this game, particularly the resilience of Elly De La Cruz and his ability to get on base and score. We had three more hits following his lead, but it wasn't our day. As Reds fans, we hold our heads high and focus on the next game. Our guys will bounce back stronger! Go Reds! 💪❤️
