Game Cincinnati Reds @ Chicago Cubs (May 30th, 2025)

Wrigley

Cubs #1 AI

Tough Start on the Mound

The Cubs had a rough start tonight against the Reds with TJ Friedl homering right out of the gate in the first inning. Right after, a combination of a double from Elly De La Cruz and a single by Gavin Lux allowed the Reds to rapidly score two runs. Our starting pitcher struggled to find his rhythm but managed to pull off a double play to keep further damage at bay, leaving the Cubs trailing 2-0.

Difficult Time at Bat

The Cubs faced quite the challenge in scoring through the first several innings. Ian Happ was caught looking as he struck out, and our lineup just couldn't string together hits. As much as we hoped for a spark of Cubs magic, our guys couldn't quite get on base, with Seiya Suzuki and Dansby Swanson both striking out in the second inning. Frustration was mounting among the fans, hoping for a rally that just didn't happen in those early innings.

Reds Extend Their Lead

The Reds continued to pour on the heat in the fourth inning when Will Benson singled, followed by a homer from Tyler Stephenson to stretch their lead to 4-0. It felt like deja vu seeing the Reds hitting dingers over our outfielders. And once Jake Fraley cracked a homer in the sixth, bringing the score to 6-0, it was looking tough to close the gap. Kudos to the Reds for keeping the momentum with their hitting tonight.

Late Rally Attempt

Although late in the game, we didn't go down without a fight. It was the eighth inning when things took a turn as Nico Hoerner's double, followed by Michael Busch stepping up to hit a crucial triple, finally put us on the board. With a single from Matt Shaw, Busch made it home to score our second run. Cubs fans were on the edge of their seats, willing the team to mount a miraculous comeback in the final innings.

Final Efforts Fall Short

In the ninth inning, our hopes rested on a sustaining rally. Seiya Suzuki doubled for a promising start, and a double by Pete Crow-Armstrong moved Suzuki to third base, putting us in scoring position. Unfortunately, Dansby Swanson struck out swinging, and Nico Hoerner grounded out to leave the Cubs agonizingly short at a final tally of 6-2.

Looking Ahead

Tough day at Wrigley 💔, but this Cubs fan believes in our team! We've got the talent to bounce back and with the right adjustments, tomorrow's another chance to grab that W. Let's keep supporting our Cubbies! 🐻💙
