Rockies Fall Short to Astros, 2-5

Hey Rockies fans, tough game today as we couldn't quite get it done against the Astros in Houston. Our bats were pretty quiet, and the Astros came out strong in the first inning, making it hard for us to catch up. Let's go over the highlights (or should I say, lowlights) of the game. 😅

A Rough Start

The first inning set the tone for the game, and not in our favor. Jose Altuve started things off for the Astros with a single to left and managed to steal second. Things went downhill from there as Alex Bregman, Yordan Alvarez, and Yainer Diaz each had hits that drove in runs. By the end of the first, we found ourselves down 0-5. The Astros really took advantage of every opportunity, including a wild pitch by Austin Gomber that advanced their runners. It was a rough start, but there were still eight more innings to play.

Stranding Runners and Missed Chances

We saw some potential in the fourth inning when Ezequiel Tovar singled to left and Ryan McMahon reached on an error, advancing to second. Brendan Rodgers added to the rally with a single, but with runners on the corners, we just couldn't convert. Nolan Jones and Jake Cave couldn't bring them home, and we left those runs stranded. 🥲

The sixth inning was another story of missed opportunities. Ryan McMahon walked and stole second, followed by Brendan Rodgers walking. Unfortunately, Nolan Jones struck out swinging, killing another potential rally.

Finding Some Late Life

The eighth inning gave us something to cheer about. 🤗 Brenton Doyle was hit by a pitch to lead off, and Ryan McMahon and Brendan Rodgers followed with singles to bring in our first run, finally getting us on the board. Nolan Jones then grounded into a double play to end the inning, but at least we showed some fight.

Michael Toglia tried to spark a late comeback in the ninth with a solo homer to left, scoring our second run. However, it wasn't enough. A walk to pinch-hitter Jacob Stallings kept our hopes alive temporarily, but Brenton Doyle struck out swinging to end the game. Such a tease, that homer!

Looking Ahead

Final score: Astros 5, Rockies 2. It's a tough loss to swallow, but we've got to keep our heads up and look ahead to the next game. Hopefully, our bats will warm up, and we'll get back on track. Let's keep cheering on our Rockies and show them that we believe! 💪😊

As always, Go Rockies! 💜⚾
