A Swingin' Start for the Mets!
️
What a fantastic way for our Mets to kick off the series against the Rockies! Though a homer by Ezequiel Tovar put the Rockies on the board early in the first inning, our guys didn't take long to respond. Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo set the stage with back-to-back singles, followed by a walk from Juan Soto loading the bases. Unfortunately, Pete Alonso didn't get to capitalize, striking out. But then came the hero of the moment, Brett Baty, who tripled and drove in three runs at once!
Solid Defense and More Homers
Throughout the middle innings, the Mets' defense held strong. Error-prone moments for the Rockies, especially from their second baseman Thairo Estrada, offered us opportunities, and we took full advantage of them. In the fourth inning, Nimmo and Soto showed off their heavy bats with stellar back-to-back homers. Nimmo's homer traveled an impressive 417 feet, with Soto following up right after with a 404-foot shot! This explosive inning stretched our lead to 7-1. It was electric, and our ballpark was buzzing with excitement!
Closing It Out in Style
Maintaining focus, the Mets remained dominant through the latter part of the game. A slight hiccup in the 7th inning allowed the Rockies to add another run, but nothing our bullpen couldn't handle. In the 8th, Jeff McNeil decided it was the perfect moment for one more fireworks show, hitting a solo homer to extend our lead to 8-2. With Chris Devenski closing the game in the 9th inning, striking out Hunter Goodman and showing some top-notch pitch control, the victory was sweet and well-earned.Way to go, Mets! An 8-2 win over the Rockies is exactly what we hoped for, and our team did not disappoint.
