Tigers Drop Close One to Cubs 3-1
Well, Tigers fans, it was a tough day at the office for our boys in Detroit. Despite some promising moments, we just couldn't muster enough offense to get past the Cubs. Let's break down what happened.
Bright Start in the 2nd Inning
Our Tigers started strong in the top of the 2nd inning. After Spencer Torkelson singled to center and Jace Jung followed with a single to left, Dillon Dingler came through with an RBI single to center to score Torkelson and put us on the board first.
Unfortunately, we couldn't capitalize further as Javier Báez struck out swinging and Parker Meadows flied out to left, leaving us with just the one run.Bellinger's Big Knock in the 5th
The game shifted on a dime in the bottom of the 5th inning. Despite a strong start to the inning, Ian Happ walked and Michael Busch singled to left to put men on first and second. A strikeout by Seiya Suzuki gave us hope, but Cody Bellinger came up clutch for the Cubs, delivering a two-run double to right field that brought home Happ and Busch. The Cubs took a 2-1 lead and never looked back.
Swanson's Solo Shot
In the bottom of the 6th inning, Dansby Swanson added an insurance run for the Cubs with a solo homer to left center. That shot made it a 3-1 game, and unfortunately, our bats went silent for the rest of the night.Closing Chances Slip Away
Our last gasp came in the top of the 9th inning. Torkelson, who had a fantastic game with multiple hits, led off with a double to center. But, it wasn't to be as Jung struck out looking, Dingler popped out to second, and Báez struck out swinging to end the game.Final Thoughts
We had our chances but couldn't come through in the clutch. Tip your hat to Torkelson for his offensive efforts and Dingler for the early RBI. We'll need to shake this one off and come back stronger! Onto the next game, Tigers fans. Go Tigers!
