A Rollercoaster Ride Against the Blue Jays
Hey Tigers fans, our boys put up a tough fight today, but unfortunately, we fell just short against the Blue Jays with a final score of 4-5. Here's a rundown of the game's highlights and low points from a fan's perspective.Early Inning Struggles
The first inning started off rough with Wenceel Pérez flying out to right, followed by a single by Colt Keith. However, we failed to capitalize on that hit. The Blue Jays struck first with a homer by Springer, putting them up 1-0.The second inning didn’t go much better for our Tigers. Carson Kelly and Bligh Madris couldn’t get the ball past the infield, and Zach McKinstry also flied out to center. On the flip side, our defense held strong to keep the score 1-0.
Springer Shows No Mercy
The third inning was all about one man—George Springer. After a single from Clement, Springer launched another rocket into left-center, extending Toronto's lead to 3-0.We had a chance in the third with Gio Urshela's double, but once again racked up outs without bringing him home.
Malloy's Big Moment
Finally, in the fifth inning, our bats came alive! The Blue Jays still leading 3-0, Justyn-Henry Malloy changed the game with a towering homer to center that cleared the bases. With McKinstry, Pérez, and Keith scoring, we jumped ahead 4-3!However, the Blue Jays quickly answered back, tying it up 4-4 after a scoring hit from Horwitz in the bottom of the inning.
Heartbreaking Sixth Inning
The sixth inning was where things took a definitive turn. Will Vest took over on the mound but couldn't prevent the go-ahead run as Clement hit a single, scoring Turner, making it 5-4 in favor of Toronto. Despite our best efforts, we couldn't generate any more runs in the remaining innings.Ninth Inning Nerves
Hopes were high going into the ninth, but it wasn’t meant to be. McKinstry flied out, Javier Báez grounded out, and Urshela ended the game with a fly out to right. The Blue Jays held on to their narrow lead, sealing the game at 5-4.Final Thoughts
It was a tough loss, but we saw some stellar moments from our team, especially that grand slam by Malloy. If we can tidy up a few things, I have no doubt that we'll bounce back stronger in the next game. Hang in there, Tigers fans. The season is still long!Scoreboard for Tigers @ Blue Jays (July 21st, 2024)
