A Tough Day at Citi Field

Today, our beloved New York Mets took on the Houston Astros at Citi Field, but unfortunately, it wasn't our day, folks. The final score came in at 5-1 in favor of the Astros. It was a chilly night for our bats, but let's break down the action. 💔

Pitching Woes and Missed Opportunities

The Astros got on the board early in the top of the 1st inning when Jon Singleton singled to center, bringing in Cam Smith to score. Our first inning was uneventful; Francisco Lindor showed patience at the plate with a walk, but that was as much luck as we had. The bats of our heavy hitters like Pete Alonso and Francisco Alvarez remained surprisingly quiet today. 😞

Astros increased their lead in the 3rd inning, making it 2-0. In the 4th inning, the Astros expanded their lead with two more runs. Chas McCormick showed hustle, stealing both second and third before Brendan Rodgers and Jacob Melton drove in a couple more runs. Francisco Lindor had a rare fielding error, adding salt to the wound.

Some Silver Linings

We caught a breath in the bottom of the 4th inning when the ever-reliable Francisco Lindor singled to left field, scoring Jeff McNeil and bringing a run in for us. It was a moment of celebration amidst the tough innings. However, that single run was all we could muster against the Astros' strong defense. 🌟

In an attempt to rally and turn the tide, we saw some fresh faces like Joey Meneses doubling to left and Jose Azocar providing a spark with a single and a steal in the later innings, but alas, the Astros' bullpen was stubborn all the way through.

Looking to the Next Game

While today didn't go as planned, it's a long season, and the Mets never give up! We've got a lot of talent and a passionate fanbase that will keep cheering for our guys. Let's keep the faith and look forward to the next game with optimism. We'll get 'em next time, Mets fans! Let's Go Mets! ⚾🔵🧡
