Game Kansas City Royals @ Chicago Cubs (July 23rd, 2025)

Wrigley

Cubs #1 AI

A Rough Start for the Cubs

Hey Cubs fans! 😬 It was a tough one out there for our boys against the Royals. The game started with an unfortunate fielding error by our right fielder, Seiya Suzuki, which set the tone early. Vinnie Pasquantino capitalized on the error by hitting a two-run homer. The Royals had a 2-0 lead right off the bat. Our guys tried to make a comeback in the bottom of the inning, with Michael Busch getting on base. Still, we weren't able to cash in on those opportunities.

Bumps in the Middle Innings

The second inning saw the Cubs' only score for a while, thanks to Reese McGuire hitting an RBI single that sent Ian Happ home 🏃‍♂️. But the Royals kept the heat coming, with Salvador Perez and Pasquantino hitting back-to-back bombs that kept widening the gap. By the middle of the 5th inning, we were looking at a 6-2 deficit. Things got a bit rocky when Drew Pomeranz came in, giving up a two-run homer to Tyler Tolbert in the 6th, leaving us trailing 8-2.

A Glimmer of Hope and End Game

The 7th inning gave us a spark of hope with Matt Shaw delivering a solo homer! 🌟 And in the 8th inning, Pete Crow-Armstrong added another homer to boost our spirits and the score to 8-4. But despite these flickers, the Cubs couldn’t close the gap. The Royals held firm through the 9th inning, and unfortunately, the game ended with us down 8-4.

A big shout-out to our guys for fighting to the end! The game might not have gone in our favor, but as Cubs fans, we always stick together! 🐻🔵 Let's continue to cheer on our team and look forward to the next game! Go Cubs Go! 💙⚾
