Promising Start for the Royals
The Kansas City Royals came out swinging early in the game! In the top of the 1st inning, Maikel Garcia grounded out, but Bobby Witt Jr. shined with a double to left. Vinnie Pasquantino struck out, but the inning wasn’t over. Our captain, Salvador Perez, singled to bring Witt Jr. home, putting us up 1-0. With Hunter Renfroe grounding out to shortstop, we concluded the inning with a lead.Tough Times on Double Plays
We kept our momentum going into the 2nd inning where Freddy Fermin hit a single to center. Unfortunately, it went downhill when Nick Loftin popped out to first, and Garrett Hampson lined into a double play. Our defense held strong, though, keeping the Rockies scoreless.Rockies Tie It Up
The Rockies fought back in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Toglia hit a homer, tying up the game 1-1. Our boys stayed determined and in the top of the 4th, more action unfolded. An error by the Rockies’ third baseman allowed Fermin to advance, and Hampson’s grounding into a fielder’s choice brought Fermin home, securing a 2-1 lead for the Royals.Missed Opportunities
Our offense had the spirit but didn't convert opportunities later in the game. In the top of the 5th, Garcia tripled but was left stranded as Witt Jr., Pasquantino, and Perez couldn't bring him home.In the top of the 8th, after Pasquantino singled, Kyle Isbel ran for him and stole second. Nonetheless, Perez struck out and Renfroe grounded out, missing a chance to score. Our defense held until the bottom of the 8th inning where it all crumbled.
Defensive Breakdown
The Rockies capitalized on our mistakes in the bottom of the 8th inning. Rodgers advanced on a single, and later McMahon brought him to third with a double. With bases loaded, Brenton Doyle hit a ground-rule double, scoring two runs. Ending the inning at 4-2, the Rockies had taken the lead for the first time.Painful Final Inning
In the nail-biting top of the 9th, Fermin and Loftin kept hope alive with singles. However, Hampson struck out and Dairon Blanco fouled out, leaving Garcia to ground out to second, ending the game with a 4-2 loss.We had strong innings and great efforts by Perez and Fermin, but the Rockies' late-game surge cost us. Royals fans, let’s keep cheering on and trust our team will bounce back! Go Royals!
