Tough Ending for the Cardinals
Well Cards fans, it was a rollercoaster of emotions in today's matchup against the Kansas City Royals, with the game finishing 10-7 in favor of our Missouri neighbors. The day looked promising early on, but unfortunately, our efforts fell just short of victory.
Early Home Runs Light Up the Game
In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Alec Burleson and Nolan Gorman brought us back into the game with a thrilling effort. Burleson singled to left before Gorman hammered a homer to center field, allowing us to tie the game at 2-2. Then in the 3rd, with the adrenaline pumping, Brendan Donovan and Willson Contreras added a strategic double and infield single, propelling the Cardinals ahead with a scoreline of 5-2. The cherry on top? Another heroic contribution from Burleson, who launched a 428-feet homer to center, scoring Nolan Arenado too! We ended the inning leading 7-2.
Royals’ Response Dampens Spirits
Our lead was, however, short-lived. Despite our courageous start, the Royals were relentless in the 5th inning, turning the game on its head with a devastating five-run display. Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez made significant impacts, tipping the scores in their favor at 8-7 by inning’s end. The Royals didn't stop there, and their persistence paid off, taking the lead to 10-7 in the 6th.
Closing the Battle
Despite trailing, our guys kept fighting hard in the latter innings. Masyn Winn and Lars Nootbaar showcased great effort with critical plays, but the Royals’ defense stood firm. A late rally in the 9th inning saw Ivan Herrera and Alec Burleson reach base with a hit and a walk, but unfortunately, our lineup couldn't find that crucial spark to make a last-minute comeback.
Ahead to the Next Game
There’s no denying the disappointment, but keep your chins up, Cardinals fans! This game displayed our resilience, and we witnessed stellar plays by Burleson, Gorman, and Arenado.
