Tough Loss at Home
Hey fellow Nationals fans, it was a rough day at Nationals Park as our boys faced off against the Royals and came up short with a final score of 3-0. We had some moments of promise, but it wasn't enough to pull through. Let's dive into the details.Early Innings: Missed Opportunities
The Nats got off to a quiet start. In the bottom of the 1st, Dylan Crews grounded out to shortstop, James Wood struck out swinging, and Luis García Jr. grounded out to second. Unfortunately, we couldn't capitalize on Jose Tena's walk in the 2nd inning either. The Royals took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd on a single from Michael Massey after he brought in a run.Mid-Game Struggles
The 5th inning gave us a glimmer of hope when Nasim Nuñez reached on a single and then stole second and third thanks to a throwing error. But Dylan Crews walked and James Wood flied out to left, leaving Nuñez stranded. To add to our woes, the Royals extended their lead to 3-0 in the 6th with hits from Yuli Gurriel and Robbie Grossman.Closing Inning: Couldn't Find the Spark
Despite getting some base runners in the 7th inning, the Nationals couldn't muster any runs. Both Ildemaro Vargas and Drew Millas walked to start things off, but strikeouts from Jacob Young and Nasim Nuñez, followed by a fly out from Dylan Crews, curbed our momentum. The final innings saw our hitters go down quietly, and the game ended with Joey Gallo striking out swinging, Ildemaro Vargas lining out to first, and Drew Millas grounding out to the pitcher.Final Thoughts
It’s disappointing to drop this one at home, but let's keep our heads up. The pitching staff showed some grit, and our defense was solid for most of the game. Hopefully, our bats can come alive in the next one. Go Nats!Scoreboard for Royals @ Nationals (September 25th, 2024)
