Tough Finish in DC 🥺

Well, Nats fans, that was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. We faced the Los Angeles Angels and, despite a late surge, we fell short with a final score of 6-4. Let's take a look at how the game unfolded.

Quiet Start from Both Teams 💤

The game started with both teams struggling to get on the board. We saw some solid defense and pitching early on. MacKenzie Gore kept the Angels at bay, while our hitters had a tough time getting on base. Alex Call, Luis Garcia Jr., and Juan Yepez all grounded out, ending the 1st with zeroes on the scoreboard.

Angel’s Middle-Inning Burst 🌟

Things started to shift in the 4th inning when the Angels took advantage of some shaky defense. A fielding error by Jose Tena allowed Brandon Drury to score. Then the floodgates opened with Kevin Pillar smashing a bases-clearing double, pushing the Angels' lead to 5-0. Ouch.

Nats’ Struggles Continue 😕

Our bats remained silent until the 8th inning. It was a frustrating middle stretch, as Wood, Vargas, and Blankenhorn couldn’t manage to get anything significant off the Angels' pitching. Travis Blankenhorn and Jacob Young both flied out in the 5th, wrapping up our turn without a hit.

Late Inning Fightback 💪

In the 8th inning, Jacob Young sparked a glimmer of hope with a solo homer to left field (389 feet). Finally, some offense! Soon after, Nasim Nuñez scored on Luis Garcia Jr.'s single. The score was now 6-2, not great but a bit better.

Nail-Biting 9th Inning 😬

The 9th inning was intense. After a few singles and a walk, Alex Call knocked an infield single to bring in Young and move Nuñez to third. Then Luis Garcia Jr. drew a walk, scoring Adams, making it 6-4. With the bases loaded, Yepez unfortunately grounded into a double play, dashing our hopes of a comeback. So close, yet so far.

Final Thoughts 🤔

Despite the loss, there were some shining moments and late-game resilience that should give us hope. Our young team showed fight until the end. Keep believing, Nats fans. We'll get 'em next time! 💪⚾
