Dodgers Lineup Falls Short
Well, Dodgers fans, this one didn't go our way. Despite some exciting moments, we couldn't quite get the offense rolling against the Padres. Let's dive into the action of today's game.
️Early Inning Struggles
Our bats were quiet through the first few innings. The Padres' pitching staff did a good job of keeping Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Will Smith off-balance. It was a series of quick outs for the Dodgers, with nobody able to find any grass in the outfield. Both teams were locked in at 0-0, going into the 4th inning.
Padres Jump Ahead
The bottom of the 4th is where things took a turn. The Padres managed to score three runs, thanks to some timely hits. Ramon Laureano's single to right brought home two runs, putting us in a 0-3 hole. Despite some solid pitching, giving up those runs gave the Padres the upper hand. It’s always tough to play catch-up, especially at Petco Park.
A Glimmer of Hope
In the top of the 8th, Alex Freeland gave us a much-needed spark by smashing a solo homer to right-center, traveling a solid 388 feet. It felt like this could be the start of a rally, cutting the lead to 3-1. Unfortunately, Michael Conforto wasn't able to keep the momentum going, and the inning ended without further damage to the Padres' lead.
Dodgers Fall Short
The 8th inning saw the Padres extend their lead. An unfortunate double by Xander Bogaerts resulted in two more runs, taking a 5-1 lead. Our team couldn't respond in the top of the 9th, with Buddy Kennedy striking out and Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts unable to get on base.
While it wasn't the outcome we wanted, there's still a lot of baseball left in the season. Here’s to bouncing back strong and showing the league what the Dodgers are made of! On to the next one, folks! Go Dodgers!
