Tough Loss Against Pirates
Our Miami Marlins faced off against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and unfortunately, the Pirates came out on top with a 5-2 victory. Despite the loss, we saw some promising individual performances that kept the game interesting. Let's dive into the details!
Pirates' Strong Start
The Pirates swiftly took the lead during the bottom of the 2nd inning when Henry Davis scored off a throwing error by our catcher, Nick Fortes. The Pirates' lead increased in the 5th inning when Andrew McCutchen hit a three-run homer. The combination of Ke'Bryan Hayes and Oneil Cruz's proficient base running paved the way for Pittsburgh's early dominance.
Marlins' Fightback
In the 6th inning, Heriberto Hernandez provided a glimmer of hope with a massive 414-foot home run to center field. Shortly after, Eric Wagaman got on base with a walk, enabling Connor Norby to propel him to third base with a single. Jesus Sanchez then grounded out but managed to drive Wagaman home, putting us on the scoreboard. The rally cut the Pirates’ lead, making it 4-2 by the middle of the 6th inning. However, our bats fell silent after this promising effort.
Closing the Game
During the bottom of the 8th inning, the Pirates added an insurance run courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Adam Frazier. Although our bullpen tried to hold the fort, that additional run tilted the scales further in favor of the Pirates. In the 9th inning, the Pirates’ closing pitcher David Bednar efficiently shut down our offense with a series of strategic pitches. Our guys, Liam Hicks, Kyle Stowers, and Xavier Edwards, couldn't convert any opportunities, leading to a tough finish for the Marlins.
