A Rough Day on the Mound for the Cardinals
Oh boy, what a game that was, Cardinals fans.
Early Struggles and Missed Opportunities
The first inning started off quietly, with both teams unable to get on the scoreboard. But in the 2nd inning, the Marlins capitalized on a homer by Griffin Conine which drove in two runs. In turn, we faced difficulty getting runners on base in the early innings, with Lars Nootbaar and Willson Contreras striking out.Things were starting to look hopeful in the 3rd inning when Jose Barrero's walk and stolen base set the stage for a run via Nootbaar's sacrifice fly. Sadly, it was the only run we could manage in that inning. Nootbaar and Ivan Herrera both played key roles in trying to get the score moving, but the Marlins continued to pull away with another home run in the 4th.
Fight and Resilience
Despite the challenges early in the game, Barrero and Ryan Vilade worked to keep our team's spirits elevated. In the bottom of the 4th, Barrero's single scored Nolan Arenado and JJ Wetherholt, giving us two more runs and cutting down the Marlins’ lead. But alas, the Marlins kept the pressure high. The 6th inning brought us further struggles when Miami slammed two more home runs, and by the end of the inning, the score was out of reach. We tried staging a comeback with Prieto hitting a double in the 8th inning, and Helman's sacrifice fly brought in our fifth run, but the Marlins just had too much firepower today.
What’s Next?
Final score: Marlins 12, Cardinals 5.
